Bakonawa Lake is a Philippine mythology-themed instance where players must defeat Bakonawa, a legendary sea serpent attempting to devour the moon. This is the most challenging of the Port Malaya instances and features unique invincibility mechanics that require coordination.

Overview

In Filipino mythology, Bakonawa is a massive sea serpent that causes eclipses by trying to swallow the moon. The villagers of Port Malaya have discovered that Bakonawa lurks in a nearby lake and threatens to bring eternal darkness by consuming the moon. Adventurers must descend to the lake and slay the beast before it's too late.

The instance features special mechanics where Bakonawa becomes temporarily invincible and players must follow Taho's guidance to survive.

How to Access

  1. Travel to Malaya Scene (ma_scene01).
  2. Find Taho at coordinates (174, 179).
  3. Complete the prerequisite quest chain first.
  4. As party leader, select "Please weave a rope" to create the instance.
  5. Select "Now I will go down" to enter.

Instance Walkthrough

Phase 1: Preparation

  1. Upon entering, speak to Taho inside the instance.
  2. He warns you about Bakonawa's invincibility phases.
  3. When ready, as party leader tell Taho to summon Bakonawa.
"Bakonawa becomes invincible at some point. When that time comes, listen to my guides carefully. Just trust me and all will be good."

Phase 2: Summoning Bakonawa

  1. Taho drops Albopal into the lake.
  2. The scent attracts Bakonawa from the depths.
  3. The massive serpent surfaces to attack!

Phase 3: Boss Battle - Bakonawa

Bakonawa is the most powerful of the Malaya MVPs:

Normal Phase:

  • Deal damage to Bakonawa normally.
  • Watch for powerful attacks and AoE skills.

Invincibility Phase:

  • At certain HP thresholds, Bakonawa becomes invincible.
  • STOP ATTACKING during this phase.
  • Follow Taho's announcements for what to do.
  • Performing the correct actions removes invincibility.

Completion

After defeating Bakonawa:

  1. The moon is saved from being devoured.
  2. Collect MVP drops.
  3. The rope is destroyed - return to Taho outside after the cooldown.
